At the Postal Palace, located on Tacuba Street, in the Historic Center of Mexico City, the capital government launched the commemorative stamp of the program “Yes to Disarmament, Yes to Peace”, hence the Secretary of Government, Ricardo Ruíz, stressed that security is not only a matter of cops and robbers.

“We must be aware that violence will not be banished unless we work with society, where culture, social programs, and solidarity of all are the foundations for working effectively to eradicate the violence that still exists in societies,” he said.

During his speech, the head of Secgob reported that the “Brigade for Peace” visited house by house in Mexico City to distribute 7.9 million flyers, and thus get people to join the campaign and avoid tragedies.
“From January 2019, the date the action began, to August 1, 2024, 8,929 weapons have been taken out of circulation, of which 6,251 are short, 1,0784 are long, 893 grenades, one artillery piece and 85,843 ammunition clips,” he explained.
For his part, the president of the Citizen Council for Security, Salvador Gurrero Chiprés, assured that as a result of this program, Mexico City has the lowest homicide rate since the administration of Andrés Manuel López Obrador, when he was Head of Government of the Federal District.

“The data we have at hand indicates that at this time, in the month of July, the crime rate is at 1.7 homicides per day, which is practically the best moment that Andrés Manuel López Obrador had during his administration, which was 1.7 intentional homicides in 2006,” he concluded.
