The causes of the fire at the mental health center (MHC) in Burgas are still unknown. However, the version that the flames were caused by a damaged electrical panel is categorically excluded. This became known from the words of the manager of the medical facility Dr. Nadya Zhelyazkova.
“No one was hurt – that’s the most important thing. My colleagues on duty called me on the phone and I came as quickly as possible. The fire department was already here when I arrived. The staff reacted as adequately as possible. All patients were taken out into the corridor of the hospital. I can’t get them out given their condition. The floor where the fire started is in need of repair. According to the fire department, after 2 hours the floors above the ninth, where the fire actually took place, will be habitable again. The so-called powder extinguishing was used to extinguish the flames, so there is currently no water above,” said Dr. Zhelyazkova.
At this stage, we have no information about how the fire started, commented the mayor of the municipality of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, who was also there.
“The most important thing is that no one was seriously injured. There is a patient with a severe form of schizophrenia who was taken for examination because of heavy smoking. After the medical examination, he will be returned to the hospital. Over 40 people will be moved to other floors. The ninth floor of the building will be closed to be cleared. There is no need to move the sick to other medical facilities. The restoration of the premises affected by the fire will begin as soon as we make a complete inventory of the damage,” said Nikolov.
According to the words, at the moment there are 103 patients in the Central Medical Center – Burgas. “The building is state property, so this is an occasion for the municipality of Burgas to request the transfer of ownership, so that we can also take care of this hospital,” the mayor of Burgas also pointed out.
