Representatives of local commissions have no doubt that such activities derail especially those who are new to the organization of elections.

According to ELTA, complaints have been received in the municipalities of Utena and Visaginas regarding the activities of Naglios Puteikis, former MP and member of the People and Justice Union (centrists, nationalists).

And although the latter firmly denies causing destruction before the elections, CEC Chairperson Lina Petronienė confirmed that the institution she leads has received several complaints. It is true that the CEC neither confirms nor denies whether they are related to N. Puteikis.

“At the moment, signals have been received from two municipalities about one person’s attempts to convince the members of the district election commissions not to participate in the trainings specially prepared for them on the organization of the voting process. This gives reason to believe that such activities are intended to deliberately create confusion in the process of organizing the elections”, – CEC Chairperson Lina Petronienė commented on the situation to Eltai.

The chairman of the CEC is surprised that there are people who question the institution’s activities or even deliberately encourage them not to participate in the training process.

“Indeed, it is very important that all election procedures are carried out strictly according to the Electoral Code and established procedures. (…) Therefore, taking this opportunity, I would like to once again invite the members of the commissions to actively participate in the training, to deepen their knowledge about the election procedures”, said Lina Petronienė.

N. Puteikis assures that he is not doing anything wrong, but he has complaints against the chairmen of district commissions

For his part, N. Puteikis assures that his name is mentioned in this context quite unnecessarily.

“Everything is the other way around. Parties receiving grants have the right to delegate persons to election commissions. We have more than 10 cases where district commission chairmen, in order to increase the amount of salary per commission member, artificially reduce the number of commission members and explain to party delegates that you will not pass the national security certificate for working with a computer, you will not have time, you will travel too far. In such cases, as an official person of the party, I write all kinds of protests,” N. Puteikis explained to Elta.

The politician assured that he is not trying to convince the members of the election commissions to vote for I. Vēgėlė.

“Peter Gražulis and I went to Vēgėlė’s meeting with residents in Kaišiadorys. We didn’t talk, we asked what he was talking about. In reality, he talks like Peter, like I talk. I think they think similarly to us”, N. Puteikis calmly summed up the situation.

According to the CEC, about 15,000 election commission members will work in the upcoming presidential and European Parliament elections and the referendum on the preservation of citizenship.
