Denis Kadima visits the BRTCs the day after their opening

The Independent National Electoral Commission closed on Sunday, July 23, 2023 the stage of submitting candidacies for the national legislative elections of December 20 of the current year. This, following the 7-day extension.

At the end of this crucial stage of the electoral process, the Rapporteur of the Independent National Electoral Commission Patricia Nseya made the rounds of the four Offices for the Reception and Processing of Candidatures (BRTC) in Kinshasa. She says she sees at the last moment a craze on the part of the agents of political parties and groups.

“Unfortunately, we have noticed that the representatives of political parties and groups have waited until the last day to file their files. We at the CENI are not going to dwell on an operation. We have a schedule to meet. Another step opens, that of addition, withdrawal and substitution which will only take 5 days. Then we move on. On August 2, we will receive the candidatures for the provincial deputies and the municipal ones. Our staff has been sufficiently instructed on this matter. That those who were unable to do so for the national deputation can come back for the provincial,” said Patricia Nseya.

In accordance with the electoral calendar, the rest of the operational timetable relating to the filing and processing of candidacies for national deputies is as follows:

• From July 24 to 28, 2023: Addition, withdrawal or substitution of candidates’ files or national deputies’ files;

• August 9, 2023: Publication of the provisional lists of candidates for national deputies;

• From August 10 to 26, 2023: Filing and processing of appeals challenging the lists of candidates for national deputies;

• September 10, 2023: Publication by the CENI of the final lists of national deputies candidates.
