The Central Bank of Libya’s administration, assigned by the Presidential Council, issued a statement in response to what it described as “misleading news and rumors” that spread about the financial statements recently published by the bank, stressing that what it published regarding the general revenue and expenditure statements comes within its full commitment to transparency and all regulatory legislation.

The statement confirmed that it has sufficient resources to extinguish the public debt, noting that the previous administration did not disclose those resources.

The statement also confirmed that all accounts, including tax fees and reserves, are still as they are in the records, and no accounting restrictions have been placed on them, and no balances have been transferred from the bank, calling on the regulatory authorities to review the records and systems to verify this.

The statement called on the media to show a sense of responsibility and not to publish misleading news and skip facts, stressing the need to carefully verify information from its primary source through the bank’s official platforms.

The statement of the bank’s management, which was assigned by the Presidential Council, concluded with a call to keep the monetary institution away from any political conflicts, so that it would be an umbrella that brings together all Libyans and works professionally in accordance with the Banking Law and its amendments.

The governor assigned by the House of Representatives, Al-Siddiq Al-Kabeer, issued a statement two days ago in which he confirmed that extinguishing the public debt is not done with the stroke of a pen, and that it is within the jurisdiction of the executive and legislative authorities according to specific procedures, considering what was stated in the statement of the bank’s management assigned by the presidency to be misleading to public opinion.
