The UN mission announced that a settlement had been reached between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State regarding the appointment of a new leadership for the Central Bank of Libya.
The mission said that representatives of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State initialed an agreement regarding the management of the Central Bank of Libya, in accordance with the provisions of the Libyan Political Agreement, noting that the signing ceremony of the agreement will take place tomorrow, Thursday, in the presence of a number of representatives of diplomatic missions in Libya.
According to the agreement, a copy of which was obtained by Libya Al-Ahrar and signed by the representative of the House of Representatives, Al-Hadi Al-Saghir, and the representative of the Supreme Council of State, Abdul-Jalil Al-Shawish, Naji Issa was nominated to assume the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, and Marai Al-Barasi to assume the position of Deputy Governor.
The agreement specified the appointment mechanism, where consultation will take place between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State in accordance with Article (15) of the Libyan Political Agreement within a week of signing the agreement.
According to the agreement document; Within two weeks of assuming office, the governor will form a board of directors for the bank in consultation with the legislative authority, with a focus on selecting individuals with integrity and high qualifications in the fields of law, financial, banking, and economic affairs.
The agreement stressed the need to adhere to applicable Libyan legislation and the standards detailed in Appendix No. (1) of the agreement when appointing members of the Board of Directors.
The agreement also included a clause that prevents the governor and deputy governor from exercising any powers delegated to the Board of Directors in his absence, in accordance with Article 16 of Law No. 1 of 2005 regarding banks and its amendments.
According to the agreement, the UN mission is required to work with all political parties to cancel any measures contradictory to the agreement, which is considered effective immediately upon its signing by representatives of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State.
