As presidential advisor Mārtiņš Drēģeris informed LETA agency, Rinkēvičs met with Asheraden on Friday in the Riga Palace to discuss the preparation of the 2025 state budget, the proposed tax changes and their impact on the municipal budget.
During the conversation, the President expressed his satisfaction that in the next year’s state budget, it was possible to set security as the main priority, providing funding for strengthening internal security as well.
“In the current geopolitical conditions, it should be taken into account that by strengthening national security, we also create a reliable environment for foreign and local investments,” the President stated during the meeting.
In the context of changes in the state budget and taxes, Rinkēvičs emphasized the need to promote regional development and the financial stability of municipalities.
“During working visits to the regions of Latvia, it can be seen that the financial situation of local governments is often unenviable. To a large extent, this is because no compensatory mechanisms were provided for, determining greater functions of local governments or adopting tax or other decisions,” said the State President.
During the meeting, the parties also discussed the current situation with the implementation of European Union fund projects.
