The central government has allocated Rs 1.64 lakh crore to strengthen PSNL, a public sector company, The Hindu newspaper reported.
Of this contribution, Rs 43,964 crore is in cash and around Rs 1.2 lakh crore is in kind. The non-cash contribution includes allocation of 4G spectrum worth Rs 44,993 crore.
The central government has decided to merge the Bharat Brand Band Network (BPNL) with BSNL, which was created to implement the ambitious project called BharatNet.
In this regard, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the central government will provide a part of this amount as an investment to BSNL, and using this, BSNL will improve its financial situation. He said that the company will expand its services through another part of the funding.
Also, it has been mentioned in the news published by The Hindu that this fund will be used for BSNL to provide internet service to compete with private companies.
Commonwealth Games starts today
The 22nd Commonwealth Games is about to begin in Birmingham, England. 72 countries are going to participate in the competition which will be held from today till August 8, reported the daily ‘Dinathanti’.
This year, 5000 sportsmen and women are participating in the Commonwealth Games, which is held once in 4 years. And in the current Commonwealth Games, a total of 280 races will be held in 20 sports. Women’s 20 Over Cricket and Judo are newly added events.
The regular shooting competition has been dropped from this year’s Commonwealth Games despite strong opposition, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa has 14 more days to stay in Singapore
The Tamil Mirror website reported that the temporary permission given to Sri Lankan former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to stay in Singapore has been extended for another 14 days.
Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will return to Sri Lanka soon, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Bandula Gunawardena said at the press conference announcing the cabinet decisions on July 26.
In this case, Singapore has given Gotabaya Rajapaksa time to stay in the country for another 14 days, according to the news published by the Tamil Mirror website.
