Madurai: Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said, “The central government is not only sending a letter to the EPS. Whatever decision has been taken by the Election Commission of India, the central government is also implementing that decision.”

Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam met reporters at the Madurai airport before leaving for Gujarat to condole the death of PM Modi’s mother. He was then questioned about the fact that the Election Commission had sent a letter mentioning him as a coordinator. He said, “According to the constitution of AIADMK, the election of the party was conducted. In that election, through the party’s volunteers, they chose me as the coordinator and Edappadi Palaniswami as the co-coordinator. This is the truth.

In between he developed various synthetic problems. I don’t need to answer that. Formally the Election Commission of India, in every letter duly mentioned as the coordinator O. Panneerselvam, has been sending since then till date. The Election Commission accepted it and asked to hold the organizational election of the party, and we have completed the elections at various levels including from the branch association, municipality, municipality and corporation,” he said.

When he was asked about the central government sending a letter to the EPS only, he said, “There is no such pattern so far. Whatever decision the Election Commission of India has taken, the central government is also implementing that decision.”

Asked if he would accept sending a letter to EPS referring to him as the general secretary, he said, “That is wrong information.”

The Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu has written a letter to the AIADMK coordinator and co-coordinator regarding the operation of the ‘RVM’ machine. In this letter, AIADMK coordinator is mentioned as co-coordinator. This means that the posts of coordinator and co-coordinator are still under the approval of the Election Commission. It is to be noted that the Law Commission had written a letter a few days ago stating that AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami would comment on one country, one election.
