As part of the health component of the Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend in the Sahel (SWEDD) project, a ceremony to hand over the 15 vehicles was organized on Thursday, July 4 in the afternoon at the Central Pharmacy of Guinea (PCG). These rolling stock consists of 6 container trucks with a capacity of 3 to 20 tons and 3 of 15 tons; 6 Land Cruiser Pick-Up single cabin and 3 Hilux vehicles.
The donors’ goal is to improve the distribution of essential medicines and strengthen the pharmaceutical supply chain to the last mile in Guinea.
Visibly pleased to receive these rolling stock, the Director General of the Central Pharmacy of Guinea (PCG) thanked the technical and financial partners involved in this project: “It is to support this strategy of distributing health products to the last kilometers that the SWEDD project, a recipient of the World Bank, has undertaken to make available to the central pharmacy through the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, that of cooperation, rolling stock that we are receiving today. This contribution will certainly strengthen the operational capacities of our national purchasing center as well as the entire health system.
“We are firmly committed to using these vehicles efficiently and rationally for the benefit of our populations,” said Dr Labila Sagno.
From the top of the podium, the resident representative of the World Bank in Guinea, Issa Diaw, during his speech recalled that this is the second time in a few weeks that he has handed over the vehicles.
“It is always a real pleasure for me to be with you for the official handover ceremony of logistics equipment (…). This is possible thanks to the combined efforts of the Government of Guinea with the support of the World Bank Group through the SWEDD project. This once again demonstrates the clear commitment of our group to support Guinea in strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain for the delivery of health products to the last kilometers and especially the importance that our institution places on equitable access to health services for health and vaccination coverage,” he confided.
According to him, “the technical vision that we have through this project consists of strengthening regional capacities in order to improve their lifestyle in reproductive, material, neonatal, child and nutritional health and qualified personnel for an envelope of 14 million dollars. The technical and financial support has made it possible to carry out several important activities including the recruitment and training and care of 197 midwives, the recruitment and training of 215 ASCs and 1999 recos for the region of Faranah and Labé.”
Continuing, he said: “We would like to express our deep gratitude to the Guinean Government, particularly the Department of Health, for the frank collaboration that has been established despite the many challenges encountered. (…) Ultimately, everything we do aims to improve the health of populations so that they can contribute to the sustainable development of Guinea. We are currently preparing a new commitment in the field with a new health project and we will work together to ensure that each funded activity has a real and lasting impact on the populations.”
Further, Ismaël Nabé, Minister of Planning and Cooperation indicated that “by integrating the project for the empowerment of women and demographic dividends called SWEDD, Guinea is committed to developing human capital by promoting the capture of the demographic dividend”
“I am pleased to recall that this donation is not the first that SWEDD has given to the Ministry of Health, because there have already been 63 motorcycles for midwives recruited with the support of the project in the Faranah, Kankan and Labé areas. I would like to take this opportunity, Mr. Minister [de la Santé]to invite your department, especially the PCG, beneficiary of this important investment to make good use of it and above all to set up a mechanism for monitoring and managing these logistical resources made available to you,” stressed Minister Nabé before addressing his thanks to all the technical and financial partners.
“(…) I appeal to partners, to implementing actors to mobilize to ensure the success of this project so dear to the government; but especially to the President of the Republic, the Army Corps General, His Excellency Mamadi Doumbouya,” concluded Mr. Nabé.
The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Oumar Diouhé Bah, did not fail to express his joy before hammering home that these machines which have just strengthened the PCG pact will be of significant contribution to boosting the health product supply system in our country.
“These devices are in addition to health products, and are also envisaged by the Ministry in charge of Health, for the realization of the ideals dear to the government of Prime Minister Mr. Amadou Oury Bah, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Head of State, His Excellency, Army Corps General, Mamadi Doumbouya.
Ideals among which, the improvement of the health status of the Guinean populations, through a permanent availability of quality health products, occupies a place of choice. I am sure that these machines will be used efficiently and judiciously by the central pharmacy of Guinea, in accordance with the commitments made and the experience acquired during many health crises that our country has experienced, “he rejoiced.
