The multifunctional stadium “Daugava” is a modern and high-quality sports infrastructure, which will in the future provide even more high-quality, modern and wider opportunities for sports events and cultural events on a national and international scale. The stadium and its infrastructure services are available to both amateur and professional athletes, as well as sports clubs and individual training and competitions. The newly opened multifunctional sports venue is also suitable for various cultural and entertainment events, as well as the pride and joy of Latvia – the place of honor for Latvian song and dance festivals for the youth of the General and Latvian Schools.

Anda Čakša, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Latvia: “In the multi-purpose stadium “Daugava” purposeful infrastructure improvement work is underway, so that it fully serves the sports industry and is also suitable for important cultural events – especially for the participants and spectators of the Latvian dance festival for the general and Latvian school youth. High-quality, modern infrastructure is not only an external form, it also shapes us. I am pleased that all involved parties are motivated to work towards the result!”

The engineered construction solutions for the reconstructed central sports field of the Daugava Stadium meet the requirements of international sports organizations. Therefore, the stadium can host trainings and competitions in athletics, football, rugby and other sports on a national and international scale.

“Thank you to everyone who worked individually and together as a team and will continue to work on the realization of this project. Thank you for the professional cooperation and high-quality work in the implementation of such an ambitious project,” said Daniēls Nātriņš, chairman of the board of SIA “Latvijas Nationalisānai sporta centrs”. “By completing the significant reconstruction of the central sports field of the Daugava Stadium and continuing the improvement works of the adjacent new construction of the sports infrastructure – the athletics and football training ground of the Daugava Stadium – we are creating conditions for both daily training for everyone who wants to play sports, as well as providing an environment that meets higher standards for the growth of professional athletes and training/competitions development on a national and international scale,” emphasized Daniēls Nātriņš. “These days, the first professional athletics and football trainings and the first international competitions have already taken place in the newly opened stadium – the European Championship qualification match, the Latvian national women’s team football match, Latvia – Moldova. And this is a proof of the coordinated and effective cooperation of several organizations on a national and international scale,” added Daniēls Nātriņš.

As a result of the reconstruction works, the Daugava stadium has been created according to the 4th category stadium. The central football field meets the requirements of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) and FIFA (International Association of Football Federations) for the binding infrastructure of the field.
In the reconstructed central athletics field of the stadium, observing incl. WA (International Athletics Federation) and LVS (Latvian Athletics Union) requirements and conditions, there is a well-equipped track sector, long jump / triple jump sector, pole vault sector, shot put sector, discus and hammer throw sector, javelin sector, high jump sector and water obstacle pit sector .

The waterproof synthetic surface of the running tracks and other athletics sectors is suitable for the stadium to host EAA (European Athletics Association) and WA championships and high-level competitions and training sessions. The football field, on the other hand, has professional sports natural carpet grass according to the UEFA certification system. Daugava Stadium provides more than 10,000 seats in the stands.

In cooperation with our partners, we focused on a common goal – to complete the work in a high-quality and accurate way, within the planned deadlines. This is the moment when the idea and the brick are combined into a visible result. For us, this is a successful experience in the construction of sports infrastructure. Thank you for your cooperation and support to the construction supervisor, designers and other specialists involved!”

President of the Latvian Football Federation Vadims Lashenko: “The Daugava Stadium is important for the Latvian football infrastructure, and we are looking forward to opening the inflatable football hall in this complex. So far, we have been satisfied with the professionalism and hospitality of the Daugava Stadium staff in various matters. We would also like to say a special thank you to Dāniels Nātriņš. Last week was also a celebration for Latvian football, as the Latvian national women’s football team played an important match on the long-awaited, renewed surface. We are glad that the new surface helped our ladies beat Moldova and finish the tournament in second place.”

“We are pleased with the long-awaited transfer of the central arena of the Daugava Stadium – the much-needed provision of appropriate infrastructure for the development of Latvian athletics. It is a personal and professional pleasure and, most importantly, the opportunity to return to the international track and field competition after many years. A high-quality running track and modern infrastructure are the main prerequisites to be able to restore the “Riga Cup” competition and apply for the European and World Junior Championships,” said Arnis Lagzdiņš, president of the Latvian Athletics Union.
