In this first call held on October 12 and 13, a total of eleven candidates at levels A2, B1 and B2 passed the tests at the Spanish Cultural Center for Teaching in Libya, a center accredited by the Cervantes Institute and which for a decade It carries out training actions as well as cultural activities together with the Spanish embassy.

Until now, those students who wanted to take the exam had to travel hundreds of kilometers to reach the Tunisian capital, so the medium-term objective is to open an office and, when the security situation allows, a center that joins the 88 that Cervantes has distributed throughout the world.

A year earlier, this organization launched a digital course of 110 hours of study to update the methodology of 16 teachers from Tripoli (west) and Benghazi (east) for free and which was financed with 30,000 euros thanks to a tripartite agreement together to the embassy and the oil company Repsol.

«The purpose of the course was to update linguistic, cultural and pedagogical knowledge, reflect on the methodology of teaching Spanish and its implications in the ELE classroom (Spanish as a foreign language) for the professional development of teachers and the appropriation of new tools to promote learning in the classroom,” the public entity said in a statement.

He also congratulated himself on the dynamism of the actions aimed at disseminating the language and culture that have been achieved in Tripoli in the last 18 months, which includes film series, exhibitions, flamenco shows and gastronomic meetings; and that it serves “as a stimulus for other embassies of other countries present in Libya to begin carrying out activities.”

Although the institution does not have an official center in Libya due to the instability in the country – immersed in a conflict since 2011 after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime – interest in this language has been increasing thanks to the success of films and Spanish brand series as well as the expansion of Spanish companies looking for qualified personnel.
