The Competition Council confirmed that Gaiķis has submitted his resignation to the responsible ministry, which will still have to be considered at the government meeting.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health (MoH) informs that Gaiķis will start performing the duties of the chairman of the board of LDVC from January 20, and that he was selected as the most suitable candidate for this position in the competition of 30 applicants.

Candidates were evaluated in three rounds. An in-depth evaluation of the management competencies of the candidates took place in the form of a semi-structured interview. On the other hand, in the third round of selection, in-depth competency interviews took place, in which candidates’ strategic vision, change management, leadership and team management, development orientation, as well as decision-making and responsibility were assessed.

The Ministry of Interior states that Gaiķis has obtained a master’s degree in law and has headed the Competition Council since 2020. Until then, he held leading positions in the state administration – he was the head of the State Commission of Doctors for Health and Working Capacity Expertise from 2017 to 2020, as well as the Director of the Tax Administration of the State Revenue Service from 2012 to 2017.

When announcing the tender, the board member was promised a salary of 5,500 euros per month before taxes.

It has already been announced that from next year LDVC will take over the functions of the manager of the e-health system. The task of the center will be to manage the digitization of the health sector, to create and maintain digital health services, as well as to ensure the work of the health care information and communication technology infrastructure.

By 2027, it is planned to gradually reorganize the technical maintenance of the other state information systems and database institutions under the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior department.

SIA “Latvijas Digital Health Center” was registered in 2004, and its share capital is 348,721 euros, according to “Firmas.lv” information. The holder of all capital shares of the company is the Latvian state.

The task of the Latvian Digital Health Center is to develop and effectively manage the digitization of the health sector, promoting the cooperation of the parties involved and creating the necessary digital health services for the sector, as well as ensuring the improvement of the healthcare ICT infrastructure and the wider use of digital technologies in healthcare.
