With the possibility that the ruling party will once again lose the presidency of a board of directors in Congress, some darts began to be thrown from the Chamber of Deputies towards the Executive – with requests for a change of cabinet, even – accusing it of not being “active” in the negotiations that allow the Government parties to maintain leadership in the Chamber of Deputies.
“In politics we are all adults, of legal age, who assume our responsibility (…). And when there is a party or a parliamentarian who says ‘I’m going to do this and I put my signature and my word’, and then I don’t do it… Why would that person, who does not keep his word, pass the responsibility on to a third party?“. This is how the Government spokesperson responded this Monday, Camila Vallejo (PC), about the situation that is being generated around the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies.
This after the administrative agreement agreed between various political parties lost ground in the instance. After the frustrated arrival of Communist Party (PC) on two occasions to the leadership of the front, the political tent demands its turn. However, the People’s Party (PDG), who on paper appear as the heads of the board of directors for the next few months, do not seem willing to give in.
On the other hand, the Democrats Party, who had lent his signature and validated the PC for the presidency of the Chamber, at this point does not fully support his initial position. It is for the same reason that, for a few moments, the conversation moved to La Moneda.
In itself, what was reproached to the Government It was the political management in Congress. With the precedent of the defeat in the Senate, where the opposition won the presidency, there is fear that the situation will be replicated in the Lower House and end up harming the reforms promoted by the Executive.
Due to the above, the idea of making changes to the political committee was raised if the situation in the House is not resolved. However, after Vallejo’s statements, there was a reconsideration of blame and responsibilities.
“Evidently for the Government this is not indifferent”
One of the deputies who came out in support of the Government officials was Jaime Araya, head of the PPD-Independents bench.
“Why do they say that the Government is late, if this is a problem that we deputies have to solve?” asked the parliamentarian, agreeing with one of the points that Vallejo raised: “Why insist on transferring costs or responsibilities of those who actually breach the agreements?”
“Evidently for him Government “It is not indifferent who presides over the front,” he added. Arayaensuring that there was interest from Executive in the discussion.
Another of the deputies who supported the statements of the minister spokesperson was Eric Aedo (D.C.). Precisely the latter was one of those who spoke of changes in the cabinet in the face of a fatal outcome for the ruling party. Despite this, Aedo -in Tele13 Radio— he recalculated and clarified his approach.
“It is evident that it is not the total responsibility of the Government. But Government “It cannot be a passive actor, because, if it loses both tables, the Government has to forget about its agenda,” he said.
In itself, what the Christian Democrat asked for—in a meeting that took place with the minister Segpres, Alvaro Elizalde— was to see the Executive “active.” “I think that yesterday began to be noticed“, he pointed out.
The resignation of the board led by Ricardo Cifuentes (DC) was approved in the Lower House. With this, they are waiting for the new leaders of that Legislative chamber to be defined next week.
