In Bulgaria, over 94,000 citizens have changed uniform numbers, Minister Tsekov revealed in Smolyan

The change of the EGN of Martin Bojanov – the Notary, who was killed two weeks ago, may not have been done intentionally by him, but due to a mistake. This is understood from a press release of the General Directorate of GRAO of the regional ministry.

When Martin Bojanov was born – in 1973, there were still no uniform civil numbers in Bulgaria. Only after their introduction in 1977, those born automatically receive such a number, the first 6 digits of which correspond to the year, month and day of birth.

For those born before that date, after the system was introduced, interviewers went to people’s homes to collect information. These polls were later found to be rife with errors.

Something similar happened to Martin Bojanov. According to the birth certificate, Martin Angelov Bojanov was born on March 21, 1973, as

the announcement to the municipality was made the next day – March 22

Thus, until 1999, he had a social security number starting with 730322 and four more digits. After that, the first six digits were changed to 730321, says the directorate after the verification.

The next 4 digits of the ten-digit EGN are control. When any of the previous 6 digits are changed, they are automatically changed according to a certain algorithm, and this is the explanation why the Notary’s personal identification number was completely changed, and not just a correction of the digits related to his date of birth.

In principle, there are two main ways to change the TIN – either with a court decision or when officials from the municipal administration notice an obvious discrepancy: discrepancy in dates between the birth certificate and the numbers in the TIN, discrepancy between the gender entered in the certificate for birth, and the check digit for gender in the EGN, or something else.

The check for Martin Bojanov in the directorate did not find a court decision or a transcript from him for the correction made, the directorate says.

However, it is not clear from their message when exactly Martin Bojanov’s personal identification number was changed. He

has 4 civil marriages,

as the first one was concluded in 1992 with his already new TIN starting with 730321. At the same time, in the GRAO registers, he was using his old TIN starting with 730322 until March 1, 1999.

In principle, there are a total of 94,452 citizens in Bulgaria with corrected uniform citizenship numbers, Regional Minister Andrey Tsekov announced today in Smolyan.

The GRAO Directorate claims that the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not order them to investigate Martin Bojanov. However, the Ministry of the Interior specified that they entered the GRAO office in the Nadezhda area and seized documentation from there. (24 cups)
