The chinstrap returns in public transport due to a new wave of infections

Seventh wave of coronavirus in France? Health Minister Brigitte Bourguignon called on the French to “replace the mask or chinstrap in transport”.

In the middle of the French summer and when everyone dreamed of a virus-free vacation, he called “this citizen gesture” in the face of a revival of the epidemic in France in the last three weeks, with the Omicron BA,5 variant, which is progressing rapidly.

By buses, planes, trains, taxis and subways, the minister recommends repositioning the mask. For her, this decision should be extended to all places that are closed or conducive to “promiscuity”.

“It is enough to see a packed station, a full train to know that you have to protect yourself first and then others,” said the minister.

According to figures from Sante Publique France, 71,000 cases are detected every day in the last three weeks. On Friday, June 24, there were 79,262 confirmed cases in 24 hours. A rise of 56 percent in 7 days. The trend was confirmed in the hospital: since June 22, admissions for COVID 19 increased by 25.4 percent.

The minister’s call it’s not mandatory. But it comes just a month and a half after it had been authorized not to wear a mask in France.

“I will not say that it is an obligation but it is a citizen duty. We must pay close attention to this return of COVID,” said the health minister. “The fourth dose for everyone will probably come”.

The minister will meet on Tuesday with all regional health agencies and prefects to discuss the return of COVID.

fourth dose

The infectologist Gilles Pialoux called the French “don’t expect to have problems” to receive a new dose of vaccines against Covid. But so far only certain categories of the population are eligible to receive the fourth dose.

The most fragile citizens can be vaccinated, those with immunosuppression from the age of 12 and those over 60 years of age. Immunosuppressants who have passed three months of their dose, are entitled to another dose.

People over 80 years of age can also be vaccinatedif they received their vaccine three months ago.

Between 60 and 79 years old, they can be vaccinated if they were vaccinated 6 months ago. Everyone should get a dose of Moderna or Pfizer.

Doctors believe that there are no vaccine problems in France. But what people over 60 should be prioritizedor with comorbidities especially.
