The choice of Conte su Raggi ‘extinguishes’ the Zingaretti hypothesis for the Capitol

Time.news – The endorsement of Giuseppe Conte a Virginia Raggi makes any possibility of candidacy for Nicola Zingaretti as mayor of Rome e Roberto Gualtieri he can dissolve the reserve by announcing his race at center-left primaries for the Capitol, scheduled for June 20. The Giallorossi alliance between dem and M5s will talk about it again in the second round, if there will be.

After a month of internal labor in the Democratic Party, with the secretariat of Enrico Letta in pressing on the governor of Lazio, considered the most titled name for Palazzo Senatorio, it is the position of the M5s, by the voice of the former premier, to put a tombstone on the hypothesis and to clarify the framework of the alliances.

For days the governor of Lazio had been letting it filter that he would take into consideration the hypothesis of running for the Municipality only if the 5 Stars remained within his majority in the Region. But Conte has in fact closed to this possibility. “The 5 Star Movement on Rome has an excellent candidate: Virginia Raggi. The Movement supports it in a compact and convinced manner, at all levels”, explains the former premier.

“Virginia is giving a new face to the city”, he later specified in a letter sent and published by La Stampa. “After an initial phase in which his administration had to show signs of discontinuity with the management of the past and had to sow so much” now “we are starting to see the clear fruits of this intense work and the Romans are realizing it every day of more”.

“It is a pity in Rome that the conditions have not been met to plan an electoral campaign in close synergy with the Democratic Party – adds Conte -. The common work at the regional government level deserves to be completed until the end of the legislature”. In short, the conditions requested by Zingaretti have not matured.

For the leader in pectore of the Movement, the first round “will be a sort of primary in our field”, then in the second round there will be a “privileged dialogue of the Movement with the Democratic Party”. Translated: who of the two reaches the second round, against the center-right, supports the candidate of the other. We will see. Raggi in the meantime collects the endorsement: “Come on together. Thanks for the support to Giuseppe Conte and the M5s”.

After a month of silent waiting, Gualtieri then dissolves the reserve: “I make myself available to Rome, with humility and pride. I participate in the primary on June 20. Let’s build the future of our city together: I am here”. “It was not an easy decision to take because doing the mayor of Rome well is an undertaking that shakes the veins in the wrists” but “after a long reflection I decided to accept because I think I can help my city to win the challenge of the relaunch ”, he explains in an interview with ‘Repubblica’.

The former Minister of Economy criticizes Raggi, accusing her of not having been “up to par and not having been able to stop the decline of the city.” “I think it is clear to everyone that Rome deserves more and must turn the page”, he adds, telling himself “I’m sure that many voters, even among those who are looking at the candidates of the Rays and Calenda today, will be able to appreciate our proposal in the second round”.

As for the fact that the Pd preferred Zingaretti to him, Gualtieri replies: “With Nicola we have heard and coordinated constantly: we are and will be a team. His candidacy would have been a strong, weighty candidacy, but in the end the great respect for the institutions that has always distinguished him prevailed ”.

Gualtieri will see it at the gazebos with Paolo Ciani, Tobia Zevi, Giovanni Caudo and maybe Monica Cirinnà. Now the Democratic Party will have to build through the primaries a candidacy capable of speaking to the whole city, especially in the suburbs, where the elections for the Capitol are won.

A hint of sarcasm in the commentary by Carlo Calenda, who will go to the polls with the support of the Renzians of Italia viva. “The candidate of the Democratic Party in Rome was essentially chosen by 5 stars, with the support of Conte alla Raggi and threatening to bring down the Region in the event of Zingaretti’s candidacy. Sincere and reliable allies. Welcome to Roberto Gualtieri”, says the leader of Action.

On the other front, that of the center-right, there is still no candidate for the Capitol. After several postponements, a coalition table should be held on Wednesday, but the leaders will not participate. For days Guido Bertolaso, sponsored mainly by the League, reiterates that he is out of the game. But several in the coalition are hoping to persuade him to reconsider his position. A possible ticket is being studied with the Fdi advisors Chiara Colosimo O Lavinia Mennuni.

Alternatively, other voices speak of some chances for Emilio Carelli, former M5s deputy, even though coalition leaders have closed the door on his name. An agreement between the parties, according to what filters, could also concern the future regional elections, where Francesco Lollobrigida of FdI e Claudio Durigon of the League are given as candidates for the race to governor.
