Sara Skyttedal to Lead Christian Democrats in EU Elections

The Christian Democrats held a meeting with the party council on Friday to determine the top candidates for the upcoming EU elections. Party leader Ebba Busch announced that Sara Skyttedal will be leading the party’s list, with Sara Kardemark in second place.

“I am enormously grateful and humbled,” said Skyttedal about her nomination. Kardemark also expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and stated that she looks forward to working with Skyttedal.

Skyttedal won the vote against David Lega with a tally of 43-33. Busch revealed at the press conference that Lega had chosen not to be available for second place. Previously, Lega was proposed as the top candidate by the party’s nomination committee but did not attend the conference.

A few weeks ago, Skyttedal had announced that she would not be available for the EU elections after the nomination committee proposed her as second on the list, behind Lega. However, she changed her mind and made herself available again, citing strong support from voters as the reason for the turnaround.

Skyttedal has had previous conflicts with the party leadership, including disagreements on drug policy. Other notable names high on the Christian Democrats’ list include Martin Hallander, a regional politician in Skåne, and Gothenburger Elisabet Lann.

David Lega’s whereabouts are currently unknown. The article will be updated with any further developments.
