La circulation des buses and tramways “will be able to resume normally everywhere in France” Wednesday evening July 5, transport minister Clément Beaune said on Twitter. “Localized exemptions may apply depending on the situation”said the minister, after several days of nocturnal interruption because of the riots.

Targeted from the first night of violence which shook the region, the trams and buses of Île-de-France have returned to their garage early every day since Thursday evening, from 9 p.m. then from 10 p.m. Tuesday evening, a measure replicated in many French cities.

Some lines stopped their service at the end of the afternoon. Trains, RER and metros were not affected.

16 million euros in damage

Forty buses and a tram were destroyed in Île-de-France during the riots that followed the death of young Nahel on June 27 in Nanterre.

The Île-de-France region estimated the total damage at 16 million euros. Orders of magnitude confirmed by Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) concerning the targeted equipment, but which evokes “at least 20 million euros in damage” for public transport in the region.

Bus depots were set on fire in Aubervilliers, Provins, Évry, Le Blanc-Mesnil, Dugny or Savigny-sur-Orge. Ten tram stations were destroyed on lines T5, T6, T8 and T9 for an amount of 2 million euros.
