The circulation of the high-speed trains that link Madrid with Valencia, Alicante and Murcia has been restored at 6:00 a.m. this Saturday once the incidents that forced the suspension of the service throughout Friday were resolved, which affected the three operators that provide service on this line (Renfe, Ouigo and Iryo).

As reported by Adif and Renfe in separate statements, since 6:00 a.m. traffic has been restored on both roads once the repair work on the catenary has been completed, which this Friday suffered several incidents in the vicinity of Monteagudo de las Salinas (Cuenca).

The confluence of four incidents on the same section, independent of each other, in an interval of just over three hours, caused the suspension of traffic between Monteagudo de las Salinas and Bifurcación Albacete, explains Adif, detailing that if this had not occurred sum of incidents, the circulation of trains on the line could have been maintained.

The first incident was recorded at 8:19 a.m., when a train was stopped at the Monteagudo de las Salinas entrance signal. At 8:20 a.m., an incident of detours was detected at the same site. The third incident occurred at 08:47 hours, due to a lack of electrical voltage resulting from a breakdown of several catenary spans on track 1 between Monteagudo and Bifurcación Albacete, which forced circulation on a single track (track 2) in this section.

At 11:56 a.m., a new incident in the electrification system (pantograph/catenary) forced the suspension of traffic on both lanes of this same section of the Madrid-Comunitat Valenciana and Region of Murcia high-speed line. Throughout Friday, Adif maintenance teams have worked on restoring the service in coordination with the railway companies, which removed the trains that had been stopped on the affected section of track.

These works were accelerated starting at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, when the tracks were completely cleared of trains, and after completing the work, all the elements that make up the railway infrastructure have been reviewed. After the recovery of circulation, Adif analyzes the specific causes of the different incidents.

Attention to passengers

While the repair of the incident was being addressed, Adif deployed an information device for travelers at the stations that run along this high-speed line, and during this night the Madrid-Chamartín Clara Campoamor station remained open to welcome travelers; In addition, at the Madrid-Puerta de Atocha Almudena Grandes station, a room was set up for travelers arriving from Albacete via the conventional network. The extension of the business hours of some restaurants in Chamartín was also managed to be able to serve passengers.

Renfe, for its part, has explained that at the time the incidents occurred it had 9 trains in circulation on various routes in both directions on the Valencia-Madrid, Madrid-Alicante, Santander-Alicante and Madrid-Murcia routes, all occupied. for a total of 1,824 travelers, who were detained along the way.

For all of them, Renfe had a train and bus system from the first moment. Specifically, five buses were used to transport travelers from the stopped AVE to Cuenca, and later the same vehicles took travelers by road from Cuenca to Valencia.

Three other buses made several trips, as shuttles, between Albacete and Cuenca, to enable transfers between trains that were at both stations and to continue to their destination. And two other buses in Madrid allowed passengers to be transported to Valencia and Alicante, to transport travelers who came from the north of Spain on through trains to Levante and who could not travel from Madrid to their destination due to the breakdown on the line.

In addition, 25 taxis were used for travelers who got off in Madrid from those same trains and whose destination was cities near the capital, and medium-distance trains continued to operate by conventional route, from Albacete to Madrid.

From 11:56 a.m., the moment of total suspension of circulation on the line, Renfe also contacted all passengers on the trains whose circulation was scheduled throughout the day to announce the incident and offer them changes. or ticket cancellations without any cost.
