Malaga City Council has reduced the interannual debt by 19 million euros, according to the latest data recently published by the Bank of Spain relating to the third quarter of 2023; so that it stands at 255 million euros as of September 30 of this year, compared to 274 million on the same date in 2022.

Thus, if these VPO loans are not accounted for, the city of Malaga is the second least indebted among provincial capitals with more than 500,000 inhabitants.

In relation to the historical series of evolution of the debt corresponding to the City Council of Malaga and published by the Bank of Spain since 2004, it is worth noting that the one registered in this third quarter represents 500 million less with respect to the figure with the highest volume recorded. in said series (755, in 2011).

Another indicator, the municipal debt index, stood at 56.36% as of September 30, 2023 (48.49% without VPO mortgage loans), so it is still more than 50 points below the maximum set by the Central Government (110%).

Finally, regarding the evolution compared to the data from the previous quarter (that corresponding to June 30, 2023), the debt has been reduced by six million euros.
