The city of Marseille chosen among the most beautiful places to see in the world

Ua leading performance for the city of Marseille. According to the classification of the American magazine Time, spotted by BFMTV, Wednesday July 13, Marseille is one of the 50 most beautiful places in the world to visit at least once. The only representative of France, Marseille is placed alongside other emblematic places on the globe such as the Galápagos Islands, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, Calabria and the International Space Station.

The instigators of this ranking explain what makes the strength of Marseille. In the first place is mentioned the replica of the Cosquer cave, opened at the Villa Méditerranée at the beginning of June. Located at the bottom of the creeks, this prehistoric cave offers tourists the opportunity to admire some 480 engravings and paintings dating from 33,000 to 19,000 BC.

The landscapes of Provence and the natural heritage of the region are also highlighted. Indeed, the Phocaean city is located at the heart of the pilgrimage “In the footsteps of Mary Magdalene”, linking Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, which notably passes through two of the parks the most famous natural sites in the south-east of France: the Camargue park and the Sainte-Baume park. Finally, Marseille also owes a lot to its gastronomy with Mediterranean cuisine which is greatly honoured, especially at The Presage, Europe’s first solar-powered restaurant.

Eleven European cities cited in the ranking

The list drawn up by the magazine was designed in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis, when the tourism sector is finding a second wind. His main objective in his search for places to discover is to “find human contact through travel”.

Ten other destinations of the Old Continent are acclaimed by this ranking. These are Dolní Morava in the Czech Republic, Valencia in Spain, County Devon in England, Portree on the Scottish island of Skye, Alentejo and Madeira in Portugal, Kaunas in Lithuania, Skelleftea in Sweden, Copenhagen in Denmark and Thessaloniki in Greece. Cities and regions that could well see many curious tourists flocking this summer.
