As the impact of climate change on all aspects of our lives becomes clearer, so does the urgent need for sustainable solutions. Two critical aspects of the challenges facing humanity are the search for renewable energy sources and the need to adapt the way food is grown, in harsh and unpredictable climate conditions.

In the past, researchers dealt with these aspects individually, on the one hand, they developed means to produce electricity from solar energy, and on the other hand, they tested new agricultural techniques.
