After the first training session with the team, Arnas Butkevičius shared his thoughts about the work already done in the preparation cycle and the training camp in Turkey with “Žalgiris TV”.
“I feel very good. Although yesterday was a trip, I feel rested, we arrived early enough. A few hours before bed. We ate dinner, unpacked, and had a good night’s rest. Now we have a morning training session”, said the Žalgiris resident.
A. Butkevičius has already trained with “Žalgiris” in another training camp organized abroad, which was organized last year in Cyprus. When he first came to the Gloria sports complex, the basketball player was impressed by the entire training base.
“First of all, we change the environment. We break away from routine and everyday images. Anyway, it’s fun to spend more time with the team. Especially with newcomers. Get to know them better. If last year we were in Cyprus, where the conditions were not so good, here, it seems, everything is done perfectly for sports. The hotel has everything in one place. I haven’t even managed to go around the whole place yet, but as far as I’ve heard, there are cold baths, swimming pools, and saunas here – the highest level,” said A. Butkevičius.
“Žalgiris” will play three pre-season matches in Turkey. Žalgirei on September 11 from 19:00. a test with Bursa “Tofaš” club awaits, on September 13 from 7 p.m. – with Berlin’s ALBA, and on September 15 from 5:30 p.m. – with Istanbul “Anadolu Efes”.
The first match will be commented live by sports commentator Lukas Gintautas together with “Žalgiris” scout Eriks Kirvelaičius. Another two – “Go3” basketball commentator Jonas Lekšas.
A. Butkevičius said that after two pre-season games, the Žalgiris players are ready to improve their game in training and the upcoming matches in Turkey.
“We work in a rather purposeful way. Little by little something new is added to our game, we don’t forget the old things we learned. The further you go, the more you need to remember and think about what we did before. I think the results are not bad. As far as I know, the coach is satisfied with his work. I hope that our attitude will remain the same and after this week we will be ready for the season”, explained the basketball player.
The Žalgiris player already managed to score in the team’s second pre-season match. In the match against Baku “Sabah”, A. Butkevičius attacked without mistakes and was the second most productive in the team – 12 points.
“The coach does not restrict any player. This year there is a lot of improvisation in our game, a lot of reading of different situations. Every player, if he is able to use it, can express himself. We should be quite unpredictable. If we succeed in reading our situations, we should demonstrate fun basketball”, said A. Butkevičius about the coach’s call to take the initiative.
