The College of Architects in Girona and the Center for Regional Studies in Banyoles receive the Jeroni Moner fund

The Historical Archive of the Demarcation of Girona of the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) and the Center for Regional Studies of Banyoles received this Friday morning the double donation of the professional fund of the architect from Banyoles, Jeroni Moner Codina (1940 – 2021). The donation, made by the architect’s family, is made up of mostly original documentation divided into personal (correspondence and photographs) and professional (sketches, plans, models, project photographs and administrative documentation), which the COAC has incorporated and documentation of the city’s heritage (les recs, La Farga), of the local artistic movement (the Tint Group) and of the political process (the Progressive Platform), which the Center for Studies has incorporated.

The act of transfer of the fund had the participation of the writer Dolors Bramonwife of the architect; Rose Masgrau, president of the Regional Studies Center of Banyoles; and the president of the Demarcation of Girona of the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC).

Jeroni Moner

Jeroni Moner Codina was trained in the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona, in which he obtained the title of architect in 1968. After completing his studies, he opened an office in Barcelona together with Albert Illescas and Gabriel Mora, with whom he carried out several projects in Barcelona and Banyoles. Later, he settled in Banyoles, where he created his own studio in 1971.

Apart from his professional work as an architect, he also actively participated in the cultural and political life of the demarcation of Girona, as well as in the study and defense of town planning, the architectural and landscape heritage of our country. He was a member of the Cultural Heritage Commission of Girona between 1973 and 1993, and president of the Center for Regional Studies of Banyoles, an organization dedicated to the defense and study of local heritage. Between 1971 and 1981 he was a professor of Projects at the ETSAB in the team of Rafael Moneo, and of Landscape Architecture in the chair of Manuel Ribas.

In the field of research, he studied and promoted working groups on the architecture of the farmhouse, Romanesque Catalonia and the medieval urban house. He also worked on issues related to the landscape, mainly focused on the Banyoles lake and urban planning related to the protection and development of heritage.

As for the work, they stand out projections and constructions of various buildings in Banyoles, such as Casa Masgrau or the Mobles Terrades building and, especially, some interventions in historic buildings; such as the expansion project of the Pia Almoina de Banyoles to turn it into an Archaeological Museum, the rehabilitation project of the convent of Sant Domènec de Castelló d’Empúries with Arcadi Plan or the rehabilitation project of the Monastery of Sant Esteve de Banyoles for in Plan de l’Estany Regional Historical Archive.

Finally, he also carried out several interventions and studies around Banyoles Lake, as is the case with rehabilitation projects for some fisheries such as Malagelada or several studies for the protection of the lake basin of the lake. In Girona, he took part in the special Plan for the Old Quarter, in the extension of the Trueta and participated in the reform project of the old building of the Pia Almoina to be the headquarters of the College of Architects of Catalonia the Demarcation of Girona.
