The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) has issued a statement to clarify what happened to its president and legal representative, Ramón Jesurun Franco, during the Copa América final held at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, United States.
According to the FCF statement, on Sunday, July 14, there were moments of tension and confusion in the stadium from the early hours, which led to the implementation of additional security measures to guarantee the safety of those in attendance.
After the culmination of the sporting event and after midnight, the award ceremony was held with the participation of the delegations of the champion, Argentina, and the runner-up, Colombia: “However, employees of the stadium’s private security prevented the majority of the Colombian delegation from having timely and direct access to the grass, despite being duly identified with the official badge of the organization, which generated vehement complaints from some, because the award ceremony would begin in minutes.

One of the complaints was made by a relative of the FCF president. The response of one of the guards was a hand maneuver that triggered aggression and moments of great confusion.
“The president of the Federation, Ramón Jesurun, driven by his paternal instinct, since one of the complainants and later restrained by the guards was his son Ramón Jamil, rushed to complain about what had happened but ended up overwhelmed by the situation, finding himself in the corridor with his wife, sons, daughters and underage grandchildren,” added the FCF.
President Jesurun and his family member were referred to appear before the competent authority to explain what happened in the relevant judicial framework.
“As the governing body of Colombian football, we regret this incident and we offer our apologies to the tournament organizers, the host country and the people who were affected. For his part, President Jesurun deeply regrets these events, which should never have occurred and which resulted in a paternal and instinctive maneuver to protect his son and his family,” concludes the Colombian Football Federation.
