Playing with many and significant absences in Patras, Kolossos could not hold on and was defeated 96-73 by the local Prometheus, in the context
of the 3rd matchday for the TOP-6 of the Basket League. The Rhodesian team, which played without Sitou, Polei and Billy, came back from -19, made the derby game, but collapsed in the last quarter, losing by 23 points. Colossus started with more energy on the floor and toughness on defense and took its first four-point lead at 2:22 at 4-8. The continuation, however, belonged exclusively and shockingly to Prometheus, who reached a double-digit distance from the islanders with too much comfort. After trailing 4-8, he went on a 9-0 run to make it 13-8, and after being cut by Utomi to 13-11, he turned up the game even more and scored 11 unanswered points to make it 24-11. With Hamilton looking like he was having a great day early (10 points, 4/4 shooting) and Bazine dressed up as a… maestro (5 points, 6 assists in 7:07!), the quarter ended 26-15 in favor of hosts.
It took more than 8 minutes for the Rhodesians to reduce the difference to a single digit number and they did it after a short 4-0 by Goudlock at 14:30′ (33-24). The reaction, however, was immediate from Ilias Papatheodorou’s team and very quickly they escaped again with 18 (42-24), with Nikos Plotas, in fact, being a factor in the match with 8 points (2/2 three-pointers), 2 rebound and 1 steal! All the visitors managed to do in the remaining 3:34′ was simply to reduce the difference a little, mainly through shots, with the half finally ending 48-33.
The 3rd period started exactly as the 1st half “flowed”, with the Patrinos “running” a 7-0 streak and reaching +19 (55-36). The difference remained in double digits until 25:30, until there the Rhodesians completely “turned the switch”. Petropoulos gave the signal for the counterattack with a three-pointer and Brajkovic received it, as with 8 points in a row by the Austrian and another 2 by Papadakis, the score changed to 64-62 with a 13-0 run by the islanders. In the end, the hosts managed to “close” the 3rd period as desired (68-62) and get to +6 in the 4th.
The visitors continued to be close for about 2:30 in the final quarter, before … Cowan took action. The American guard took the “baton” from Plotas who hit a three-pointer for 73-64 and with 6 personal points he then “wrote” the score 79-66. That was actually the point where the Patrinos found their way, as Perantes may have reduced it to 79-68 from the free throw line, but two “sticky” three-pointers from Hale and Hamilton “launched” the home team to +18 (86-68) with 3:25′ before the end. Nothing changed in the remaining minutes, in which Prometheus even managed to reach more than 20 points in his favor at the end (96-73).
