He Comic festival of Fig trees closed the 16th edition this Sunday with more than 5,000 spectators. The organizers ensure that the contest is very consolidated and this year they have achieved one of the most important challenges: bet on humor in Catalan. In this sense, the inauguration was with the podcast of ‘La Ruïna’ presented by Ignasi Taltavull and Tomàs Fuentes, which could be seen for the first time in Catalan. It is a successful format throughout the State and until now it was held in Spanish. The co-director of the festival, Xavier Valtentí, has assured that after the successful attendance the two comedians “have realized that in Catalan you can also do ‘mainstream’ humor”.
The Comic Festival of Figueres started on Thursday 6 April with the podcast of ‘La Ruïna’, which fill the municipal theater of Jardí de Figueres with more than 800 people. The comedian from Emporda participated in this inauguration jair dominguez.

This year the contest premiered a new space, the ‘Late Comic’ of the Casino Menestral de Figueres. In this space, the show ‘Mític’ by comedian Modgi, and ‘Las putas amas (de casa)’, by Patricia Sornosa and Patricia Espejo, have been scheduled, both of which sold out. Valentí points out that in this space, the festival can reach new “records”, such as “latest hour humor”. Godai Garcia and Irene Minovas also performed in this ‘Late Comic’ with ‘Humor de micro’ and Roger Pelàez who did the monologue ‘Ejecting diarrhoea’.
During the four days of the festival, the organizers have also prepared free and open activities to all audiences in the capital of Alt Empordà. The organizers estimate that more than 400 people attended one of the free activities. The competition has scheduled shows in Plaça de Catalunya by Compagnie Zania (from Italy and Switzerland), Tanik (from Germany) and the Bandada collective, a group of clowns specializing in ‘a cappella clowning’ .
The sixteenth edition of the festival has closed with one of this year’s headliners. This is the silent theater show ‘Nautilus’, by the New Zealand artist Trygve Wakenshaw. The audience at the Cate de Figueres was stunned by the gesture theater show.
Co-director Xavier Valentí says that they are closing this year’s edition “satisfied with having filled the audience” with the festival’s programming. In addition, he points out that all the proposals have had a lot good reception and this shows the level of consolidation of the humor contest and the openness to new audiences and formats.
