IT companies, the municipality, customs are among the places where the graduates of the school are realized

“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you”

This testament of Georgi Stoikov Rakovski is in the central lobby of the Varna commercial high school, which bears the name of the great Bulgarian revolutionary and revivalist.

The school offers the specialties “Economics and Management”, “Trade”, “Economic Informatics” and “Customs and Tax Administration”.

Emotional intelligence is increasingly important for high school students in the difficult times in which we live, Zhechka Georgieva, director of the high school, told “24 Chasa”.

Business representatives tell specialists with what skills they need,

so that the children who go to work with them can adapt in the best possible way and not feel ignorant and ignorant. And among the partners of the high school are leading companies on the Bulgarian market.
In addition, groups of students participate in various practices and internships under the #Erasmus+ program.

Such have already been held in companies in the Spanish city of Zaragoza and on the island of Fuerteventura.

With this kind of practice, students enrich their professional competences, orient themselves in the real situation of the labor market. As a bonus is the improvement of language and multicultural competences.

Our graduates also have the opportunity to experience the cultural life and history of the city and region, visit different types of commercial markets, and try the culinary challenges that Spain is known for, the high school says.

According to Zhechka Georgieva, in addition to purely professional skills such as working with the Excel program or making websites, which are mastered as early as VIII grade, emotional intelligence is also required. It is embedded in the programs of the Ministry of Education and Culture and is increasingly important for the future of children.

And it includes several components – for students to like themselves, to respect and stand up for themselves, to communicate normally with others within the limits of a good tone. To follow the rules and be able to bear responsibility, overcome themselves. This is what we are working with the students on, this is what employers also want, emphasizes Zhechka Georgieva.

Why is this very important? To overcome the problem of aggression among students.

Our overall goal is to address the challenges of their emotional intelligence – when someone other than teachers and parents talks to them about it, they accept it better and this knowledge becomes more permanent, says Georgieva.

Otherwise, there are many good practices in the school: employers – successful young people with various types of businesses, personally tell the students about the path they have followed.

“In the dual form of education in class XI and XII, we maintain contact with 8 companies, and separately with another 14 – for lectures and practices. Some of those who have completed education in the dual form have already been invited to stay at work, whether they will do so – it is yet to be seen they decide”, commented Georgieva.

Many graduates are satisfied not because of the money they receive, but because they can find out in the field if this is what they want to work, and so, graduating, they are more aware of themselves.

In the internships in the “Trade” specialty, children start by ordering the goods, go through cash register and organizational issues. Others are in IT companies, customs offices, even in the administration of the municipality of Varna.

The real work begins in the XI grade, and for the dual classes – from their admission, the students go to

paid internships during the year under the program of the Ministry of Education and Culture

Employers are mainly looking for middle management staff to be able to do operational activities, because there is no time yet to learn to have at least the basic skills, to make decisions, to work in a team, all things that are part of emotional intelligence.

And yet – the best thing we can teach children in school is to be good people. By showing them good relationships based on a good tone, Georgieva is categorical.

The children we scolded the most were later the most grateful.

Our golden rule is – to be able to save even one child is a success, and we always strive for the maximum.
During the distribution of diplomas, the children came and said “Thank you”, this is very valuable for us and shows that our graduates appreciate the efforts we make for their education and well-being, says Zhechka Georgieva.
