The work group of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) has started its work, which is reviewing the regulation of the higher education institution’s freshman camps, the university announced to MTI on Friday.

According to the information, the board held its first meeting on Thursday under the leadership of Péter Bihari, vice chancellor of education, and with the involvement of students and staff from all relevant areas involved in the organization of the freshman camps.

The working group is preparing new, unified regulations to prevent and prevent the possibility of abuse, they wrote, adding that the focus of the new regulations will be on safety, community building and acceptance.

It was announced: the working group investigates all incoming reports, and for this purpose opens an internal communication channel.

Starting next year, the BME will centrally organize the freshman camp according to a new model, they announced. They added: the basic principles and focal points of the event are determined by the new rules, so that the students can participate in a “completely safe event that gives the students a good experience”.

“It is important that the planned event builds on the values ​​of the previous events, but part of the renewal is a change of attitude in order for the event to support community building as a university start-up festival, help the transition between high school and university, and lay the foundation for successful university studies,” he wrote in his announcement. the university.

They also mentioned that the support and assistance service of the university will be present at the camp with psychologists, providing mental health and integration support counseling.

They also indicated that the BME will further develop student support services, whose psychologists can be contacted by students with their difficulties and problems at any time during the year.
