CONGRESS

The National University of Chimborazo (Unach) will be the venue for the Twenty-Third International Congress of Journalism and Communication, called ‘Eugenio Espejo’. Carlos Larrea Naranjo, professor of the Communication program and part of the organizing committee, explained in an interview details about this academic event that will take place from July 22 to 26.

Unach’s Communications Department has begun the countdown to the XXIII Eugenio Espejo International Congress.

The central theme of this edition will be ‘Radio’, addressing its history, positioning and projection. Larrea commented that it was decided to dedicate this congress to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first radio station in Riobamba. “We have considered that it is appropriate to address this topic, since this year has been declared by the Communications program as the jubilee year of radio,” he indicated.

The main objective of the congress activities is to combine practice with theory, explained Larrea. “Experience is shared and transmitted by professionals in the different areas of communication and journalism, and on this occasion we are pleased to say that we will have great references in the area we are going to address,” he added.

This year, the congress will feature the presence of renowned institutions such as the Latin American Federation of Faculties of Social Communication (FELAFACS), whose president will endorse this international edition. Also participating will be the International Center for Advanced Studies in Journalism for Latin America (CIESPAL), the Latin American Association of Radio Education (ALER), the Coordinator of Community and Educational Media of Ecuador (CORAPE), the Council for Development and Promotion of Information in Communication, the Center for Hemispheric Studies on the United States (CEHSEU) and the National University of Chimborazo (UNACH), among other institutions.

The speakers will include representatives of national and international communication and journalism figures. The conference will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The cost of the seminar is 10 dollars, and students will receive a certificate of 40 hours of participation upon completion. The organization of this event has required at least six months of work, during which strategic allies have been sought and ideas have been consolidated. Expectations for this edition are high, since students will have the opportunity to interact with high-caliber professionals.

In addition to the congress, other activities have been planned, such as photography contests, scientific posters, spelling contests, and short films. The exhibition and award ceremony of the winning works will take place at the León Theater, in a full gala, said the professor. The organization invites everyone to take part in the International Congress ‘Eugenio Espejo’ and the various activities prepared by the Communications program. “We are just a few days away from the start of the event, which will take place over two days. We invite the entire community to participate and take advantage of this great opportunity,” concluded Larrea.
