This is the Providence+ project, a unique approach to rain forest conservation

The Providence+ team is made up of engineers, scientists, physicists and scientists from the Bioacoustics Materials Center of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – Barcelona Tech (UPC-Spain), Home -Mamirauá Sustainable Development project (Brazil) and Pompeu Fabra University.

Their proposed solution is based on a sensor box that has been deployed in different areas to collect biodiversity data, including the entire Mamirauá Reserve, in the Central Amazon (Brazil). It is the first secure area in the Amazon to be completely monitored by an automated system of this type.

Michel André, professor at UPC and director of the Bioacoustic Materials Laboratory, comments: “Being a finalist in the XPrize Rainforest Competition is an opportunity for Providence + to understand the challenges facing rainforests and devise solutions to preserve these ecosystems. The competition to achieve these goals requires joining forces with the scientific community, professionals and governments to offer a ready business response that is with Nature and contributes to the future of humanity“.
