The Comptroller will deliver a new report on Flopec after the impeachment of Lasso – La Nación

The State Comptroller General will deliver a report in two months on compliance with its recommendations regarding a Flopec contract with Amazonas Tanker, which is being debated in the impeachment trial against the president, Guillermo Lasso, in the Assembly.

The deputy comptroller, Carlos Riofrío, revealed that the control action began on April 10, 2023 and that since then there has been a period of 63 days for the corresponding units to deliver their conclusions.

This means that the document will be ready after questioning Lasso, which is expected to have an outcome in mid-May.

The legislative opposition accuses the President of alleged embezzlement in the contract that was signed in the previous Government for the rental of ships for the transport of hydrocarbons.

For this reason, Riofrío and the head of the National Directorate for Auditing Transport, Roads, Port and Airport Infrastructure of the Comptroller’s Office, Manuel Arroyo, appeared before the Audit Commission this Thursday, April 20.

The control body will verify if Flopec complied with the recommendations made in the special examination issued in November 2022, where a loss of USD 6.1 million was terminated in the contract with Amazonas Tanker.

The officials clarified that the agency did not recommend the termination of said contract, since it does not have the power to do so. The audit covered the period between January and December 2020 on this trade agreement.

Arroyo also revealed that there was a draft on possible indications of criminal responsibility, which did not go beyond the sponsorship unit of the Comptroller “due to lack of elements.”

That drew the attention of the assembly members of the impeachment trial against Lasso, who asked for details of it, although the ruling party and the President’s lawyer, Edgar Neira, objected that this had not been announced for the taking of evidence.

The subject heated up the spirits in the hall of the ex-senate of the Assembly.
