Prince Edward and wife Sophie will travel to Cranleigh in Surrey (south), Princess Anne and husband Tim Laurence will be in Swindon, Cotswolds (west) and Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, daughters of Prince Andrew, have been announced at Windsor for a luncheon with charities. Even the prime minister Rishi Sunak will host a luncheon at his residence in Downing Street, open to community volunteers and Ukrainian refugees.

Thousands of Britons are expected to attend the lunches, with flags and decorations in the colors of the British flag. But according to a YouGov poll, 72% of Britons are not motivated by the coronation and do not intend to participate in the festivities. The image of the crowned Charles appeared on the front page of all British newspapers on Sunday, hailing the monarch’s “glorious coronation”.

The oldest British king ever crowned, however, has not received the same reception as his mother Elizabeth II: anti-royal protesters demonstrated in London on Saturday as the carriages pass, as well as in other British cities. London police have arrested six leaders of the anti-monarchist group Republic, including leader Graham Smith. They were released about 16 hours later.

In total, they were arrested 52 people on the sidelines of coronation celebrations “for disorderly conduct, breach of the peace and conspiracy to cause public disturbance around the coronation”. There are also climate activists among those arrested.
