Behind Omri Padan’s impressive exit is a conflict that led McDonald’s Global to purchase Omri Padan’s holding in the McDonald’s Israel franchise. It seems that they are simply looking for a franchisee who will be more disciplined than Padan.
So Padan won big, but the soldiers are going to lose the coveted discount. This benefit is going to disappear. Global pressure worked. In the end, it’s all about money – McDonald’s did its economic considerations and decided that it was financially wrong to support the soldiers; Padan did his calculations and decided to support the soldiers, and as mentioned at the end made a huge exit. The soldiers will remain without benefits.
This shows the enormous power of the pressure from the Arab world and in general, it shows that in the end – money wins. It is not enough for us to be right, we have to be rich. MacDonalds is not really interested in us, in our soldiers, but in the bottom line – how many profits are made for it, and if it makes losses because there is a decrease in sales in the Arab world, then there is no question here at all – the problem is eliminated.

Padan, sold the activity after 30 years to McDonald’s worldwide. The amount of the transaction was not reported, but estimates are for a transaction exceeding NIS 2.5 billion. Padan, who spent decades at McDonald’s, apparently drew a phenomenal amount – at least 1.2 billion, probably equal to around NIS 4 billion. Padan is the type of people who are usually said to be “princes”, “the salt of the earth”. Padan, 72 years old, was born in Jerusalem, studied at the elitist school in Lida, where the children of the Rehavia nobility studied.
He did his military service in the General Staff patrol. As a fighter in the unit, Padan took part, among other things, in the operation to take over the plane of the Belgian airline, Savannah, which was hijacked in 1972, by the Black September organization, and was rescued thanks to the operation of the unit.
