the consecration of Le Havre, the match stopped at Bordeaux and the failure of Dupraz… what to remember from the 38th and last day

There was suspense at all levels at the kick-off of this 38th day of Ligue 2 … Everything did not go as planned and several elements caught the attention of the editorial staff.

Le Havre, deliverance… in too much of a hurry

HAC supporters had been waiting for this for 14 years and it is no doubt for this reason that the spectators, at a sold-out Stade Océane for this crucial match against Dijon, swept onto the pitch as there was still a handful of seconds left to celebrate this accession.

The 22 actors took refuge in the locker room and Luka Elsner, the Slovenian technician from the Normandy club was mad (but mad) with rage against the supporters guilty of a suspicion of impatience which could have had very serious consequences on the fate of the match and the final ranking of the team.

After about twenty minutes of uncertainty, the match resumed and the people of Le Havre could finally celebrate this victory (1-0, goal by Josué Casimir). This success which offers the title to the oldest club (the 6th in its history in Ligue 2), condemns at the same time unfortunate Burgundians in National 1.

Bordeaux, the spoiled party

Guilty of having grilled a capital joker last week by losing on the lawn of Annecy (1-0), the Girondins were no longer masters of their destiny in this race for the climb. It was necessary, in the event of a victory against Rodez, to hope for missteps from Le Havre and/or Metz. To achieve this, the party had been great all week in Bordeaux and René-Gallice was boiling: 42,000 spectators filled the stands of the stadium, several hours before the decisive match.

If Le Havre and Metz quickly took the lead in their respective matches, the evening turned into a nightmare after the visitors’ opener: in the 22nd minute, Lucas Buades (Rodez) showered a whole stadium by scoring a skilful reworking of the law.

A blow yes, but everything was still possible… until an individual sneaked onto the lawn and pushed the scorer who was celebrating (his achievement was extremely important because Rodez is fighting for maintenance) to the ground at the foot of the South bend. A moment of madness immediately mixed with anger, incomprehension and even fear in the spans of the stadium.

What had just happened? If the viewers quickly had the images available, the 42,000 supporters of René-Gallice were placed on hold. A nightmare that continued for minutes as the decision to resume the match or not was slow to be taken.

The referee of the meeting Mr. Nicolas Rainville, in an improvised press conference, announced almost an hour after the amazement the definitive end of the meeting. The commission of inquiry will meet… on Monday to ratify its decision. A crucial verdict at all levels, whether for the rise but also for relegation.

Tango happiness

Yet 17th and first relegation, Stade Lavallois had blessed the 37th day of Ligue 2. Victorious of an already condemned Nîmes Olympique (2-0), the Tangos offered themselves a breath of fresh air in the race to maintain. To top it all off, Amiens, led by QRM, fought back and sought their right to stay in Ligue 2 after a high-flying second half. Saved, the Picards were going to welcome Laval without pressure, an opportunity obviously dreamed up for the band of Olivier Frapolli.

Yet not masters of their destiny, the Tangos clung on and, although led in the score on the return from the locker room (Papiss Cissé, 53rd), never gave up. Antonin Bobichon sounded the revolt (68th) and a goal could then change everything. By dint of self-sacrifice, Eldhaji Pape Diaw converted a final header (94th). Like the whole Laval group, the Senegalese exulted and began to run towards his Kop.

Laval is, with this victory, certain to play in Ligue 2 next season. The club is not suspended from the verdict which will be given on Monday as to the fate of the Bordeaux-Rodez meeting. The last folding seat towards the National 1 will therefore be disputed between FC Annecy and Rodez. A year after going up, the Tangos have won the right to stay in the elite antechamber.

Dijon plunges into National, the failed bet of Dupraz

When he arrived at the bedside of the Burgundy club at the beginning of April, Pascal Dupraz embarked on a sacred challenge: that of saving the DFCO, stuck in the red zone of Ligue 2. Undefeated since taking office, his players have cracked at the worst of times. It must be said that the opponent who offered himself to them was the leader from Le Havre, who had a climb and a title to go for. Too limited in their intentions, they suffered the law of the Normans and conceded a goal far too early (Josué Casimir, 11th).

Obliged to look at what was happening on the other lawns, Dijon did not force its destiny. Undefeated for 8 games and the enthronement of the Haut-Savoyard wizard (4 wins and 4 draws), the Burgundians have failed and descended to National 1, just two years after leaving the elite. Specialist in rescue missions, Pascal Dupraz fails this time and remains on two successive relegations (with ASSE in 2021-2002 in Ligue 1).
