jpnn.comJAKARTA – The Council of Professors (DGB) of the University of Indonesia (UI) believes that a constitutional crisis is occurring in Indonesia.

DGB UI said that this happened due to the DPR’s disobedience.

“This is the result of the defiance of the House of Representatives (DPR) which has arrogantly and vulgarly demonstrated their betrayal of the constitution,” said DGB UI in a written statement received by JPNN.com, Thursday (22/8).

DGB UI also said that Indonesia is now in danger of authoritarianism which seems to return Indonesia to the era of colonialism and oppression.

“The despicable behavior shown by the members of the DPR is nothing more and nothing less than the manifestation of collusion and nepotism which in 1998 was strongly opposed by mass and student action, thus giving birth to the Reformation,” continued the DGB UI.

In the statement, DGB UI explained that the Constitutional Court’s decision is final and binding for all, including all state institutions, so that the discussion of the revision of the Regional Head Election Law by ignoring the Constitutional Court’s decisions No. 60/PUU-XXII/2024 and No.70/PUU-XXII/2024 one day after it was decided is very detrimental to the statesmanship demanded from the people’s representatives.

DGB UI also assessed that there is no philosophical, legal, or sociological basis that can be justified to change the age requirements for regional head candidates including the number of political party seats through the revision of the Regional Head Election Law.

According to DGB UI, these changes have the potential to cause disputes between state institutions such as the Constitutional Court and the DPR so that in the future the results of the regional elections will actually harm all elements of society because they are counterproductive and will cause damage to national life.
