DECRYPTION – The new construction market reached its lowest level in fifteen years in the third quarter.

Last month, the Nantes developer Réalités, which employs 1,200 people, announced its intention to reduce its workforce by 50 to 100 people within 18 months. Such announcements are rare, but they are likely to multiply because the new real estate crisis only gets stronger as the months go by. “Some promoters prepare PES (job protection plans, Editor’s note)»warned Pascal Boulanger, president of the Federation of Real Estate Developers (FPI), presenting this Thursday the figures for the third quarter.

These do not bode well for the sector. “This is the worst quarter since we have been compiling this data”, that is to say since 2009, laments the boss of the promoters. From June to September, sales collapsed by 30.6%. Over nine months, the decline reached 29.4%. And compared to the same period of 2019, before the Covid crisis, the drop is 44%!
