Do you smoke cannabis? You may be helping yourself in the fight against the corona. A new publication from the University of Oregon in the United States reveals that components in the cannabis plant can prevent the corona virus from penetrating cells in the human body. The study was published in the scientific journal Journal of Natural Products.
The study examined the effect of a number of acids found in the hemp plant, a strain of cannabis known to be non-psychoactive. The study was led by Richard van Bremen of the Global Innovation Center for Cannabis Research. This is not the first time that cannabis’ name has come up as helpful against corona, but this time it is the first time it has been proven in research.
Can prevent the penetration of corona proteins from the crown and stop infection
According to the study, a pair of cannabinoidic acid molecules can prevent the penetration of the crown proteins of the corona and thus also stop the process of “infection” with the virus. Laboratory tests conducted at the University of Oregon found that they bind to the protein responsible for infecting body cells by the virus. Among other things, it is the same protein that the corona vaccines focus on.
“These are not controlled substances like THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana. These substances can be taken orally, and have a history of safe use in humans. They have the potential to prevent infection with the virus as well as treat those who are infected,” the study leader said.
