Capping the rise in electricity prices, freezing the price of gas or rebates at the pump… The government is stepping up measures to protect the French from inflation. This “tariff shield” has a cost. Since the fall of 2021, its deployment has already cost 24 billion euros, the Ministry of Economy and Finance said on Thursday.

The most expensive measure relates to electricity. Over the year 2022, the State will have spent 10.5 billion euros to cap the increase in electricity prices at 4%.
