Boca Juniors entered the countdown for the historic elections that, after different judicial instances, will be held on Sunday and will face two clearly opposing models, embodied by the idol Juan Román Riquelme and the former president of the club and of Argentina Mauricio Macri.

Riquelme will be the presidential candidate for the ruling party, given that today he is vice president of the club with Jorge Ameal, who once again accompanies him in the formula but with reversed roles. Macri, for his part, is the emblem of the opposition, although he will go as a candidate for vice president of Andrés Ibarra, former Minister of Modernization of the Nation.

The “Boca world” thus awaits one of the most important elections in its 118 years of life, while the candidates remain expectant and for now silent with the media.

Until today, neither of the two lists announced a closing of the campaign and it is difficult for a decision to be made in this regard: social networks are the battlefield to show each one their ideas and “hammer” about the other’s weaknesses.

Without a doubt, the strong image of Román, Boca’s idol, and Macri, the president who won the most titles, take all the praise and rejection. And behind them the famous “rift” in national politics is also at stake: surely whoever wins will transcend the field of baseball.

That is why this “xeneize” election is different from all of them and has a public interest like no other in its history, to such an extent that the President of the Nation himself, Javier Milei, is on the register as an active member and can vote if he wants.

On different occasions, the new Argentine president spoke out in favor of Macri’s candidacy but has not yet reported whether he plans to go to vote in La Bombonera.

Some compare this scrutiny with the one carried out in the club at the end of 1986, when on one side were Antonio Alegre and Carlos Heller and on the other, Alberto J. Armando and Luis Conde.

The fight at that time was between Alegre (a man linked to radicalism) and Heller (from the communist party) against the other formula, which had the support of “La 12” with José Barrita (El Abuelo) as leader and the bastion of Peronism of Antonio Cafiero behind.

The ruling party won that election with a regrettable ending: an attack on Heller’s daughter by a member of the bar.
