“We are happy and proud to see sport in the Constitution. In a world unbalanced towards competitive aspects, making it the heritage of all citizens means cultural growth for which we have been pushing for many years. Now we must understand how to exploit this availability. The school is the most important step, as is a rebalancing of the sports facilities, too unbalanced in the North compared to the South”. Claudio Barbaro, president of Asi, said this on the occasion of the “Sport&Culture Award” at the CONI Hall of Honour. “A concept that responds perfectly to what we have about sport: aggregation, work capacity, cultural growth and a defense of our health peculiarities which reduce public spending. One euro invested in sport means 4 euros of savings for health aspects”, added Barbaro.
“I believe that Coni and the Federations have given – he continues – a great boost to sport in Italy and produced many results. However, the State had to give answers, it has started to give them. Sport and Health is an example of this. A direct intervention of the State in this stupendous and complicated galaxy. Sport can only grow in Italy if the State realizes how important this subject is. Sport is culture, a nice idea from Pancalli and we are starting to think about it.”
“It is no coincidence that we have chosen the Coni Hall of Honor as our permanent venue because we want to demonstrate the gratitude of the sports system towards the work of the protagonists of the award, and also to offer them a stage even more exposed to the spotlight. For years we have been trying to contribute to also shed light on the basis of sport and the many virtuous stories that arise from it”, underlined Barbaro.
