Today, I bring a warning to an issue that torments us as a nation: violence. We can no longer close our eyes to the reality that surrounds us, nor postpone the necessary actions to face this scourge that plagues our society.

It is imperative that all of us, as representatives of the people and as citizens, take responsibility for reversing this situation. We must question public policies, strengthen our security institutions, invest in education, create employment opportunities and promote a culture of peace.

After all, drug trafficking, weapons smuggling, illegal gold mining, cargo theft, receiving stolen products, land disputes and militias that control and exploit communities are just some of the open wounds in our fabric. Social.

When we look at crime indicators, it is clear that we face an immense challenge. With more than 40 thousand homicides per year and a rate of 23.4 per 100 thousand inhabitants, we are facing a sad reality that puts us in a critical position, even more so compared to other countries.

When we analyze data from nations such as the United States, Canada, Japan and several European countries, we realize that Brazil is among those with the highest rates of violence. This is not just a matter of numbers; It is a dark portrait of lost lives, broken families and communities held hostage by fear.

In 33 years, we lost more than 1.4 million Brazilians to violence, with 835 thousand of these victims being young people, in other words, our future. This is a civil war that is ravaging our communities, undermining the foundations of society. This reality, in fact, demands an urgent response, which transcends partisan and ideological barriers. Because, if we also compare this data with losses in armed conflicts, such as the 646,455 North American soldiers who died in 34 years of war, it is a sad observation.

We are facing an internal struggle and the victims are our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, friends and neighbors. Organized crime has taken hold in our communities, exploiting the law of silence, controlling essential services and raising costs for all of us – which cannot continue.

Cargo theft, for example, directly impacts the final price of products, while drug consumption destabilizes families and overloads the healthcare system. We can no longer allow crime to dictate the direction of our country. The time has come for a national pact, for a union of efforts to confront this epidemic of violence.

I reinforce that the harmful influence extends beyond the borders of the illicit, also affecting the supply of essential services, increasing costs and harming the quality of life of all of us – including companies, which suffer from high expenses due to insecurity, transferring these burdens to the end consumer.

Therefore, I call on all citizens, regardless of their political, social or economic position, to join us in this crusade for peace. We can no longer allow our communities to live under the yoke of fear, for our young people to have their dreams interrupted by violence.

Together, we can build a safer, more just and more humane Brazil. The fight against this evil belongs to all of us and so does the responsibility to face it. May this be the moment for reflection, debate and action to change the course of this reality and to build a more promising future.

Likewise, I ask representatives of each power to join forces, to look beyond ideological and partisan differences. The moment requires courage, leadership and commitment. We cannot fail those who have entrusted us with the responsibility of creating a safe environment for everyone.
