The court at the request of “AST” and “Eksmo” banned Telegram from distributing Stephen King’s book

by time news

The Moscow City Court satisfied the claims of the publishing houses AST and Eksmo on copyright infringement against Telegram. Now the messenger is prohibited from creating technical conditions for the distribution of the novel “Doctor Sleep” by Stephen King, as well as a number of works by other authors. This was announced by the board member of the Association for the Protection of Copyright on the Internet (AZAPI), representing the interests of the plaintiffs, Maxim Ryabyko.

“The Moscow City Court satisfied the claims for both claims. In them, we asked the court to prohibit Telegram from creating technical conditions that would ensure the placement, distribution and other illegal use of the book “Doctor Sleep” by Stephen King and books by other authors, “Mr. Ryabyko told TASS. Telegram did not promptly respond to the agency’s request.

At the end of September, AZAPI (representing the interests of Eksmo-AST, Azbuka-Atticus, Alpina Publisher and other publishers) asked Roskomnadzor to bring Telegram to justice for not removing the prohibited information. The publishers accused Telegram of not removing pirated copies of books and blocking the channel distributing them, in violation of the court’s interim measures. Then the reason for the appeal was the book “History of the Russian State. Between Asia and Europe ”by Boris Akunin (AST publishing house) and Alive in the dark by Mike Omer (Eksmo publishing house). In the summer, the Eksmo-AST group also filed the first lawsuit against Telegram for not removing pirated copies of audiobooks.
