The Paris court canceled Friday, September 8 for “irregularities” the entire procedure targeting seven relatives of the ultra-right who appeared for participation in a group with a view to committing violence after the France-Morocco World Cup semi-final.

The court notably considered that the arrests of the defendants in a bar in the 18th arrondissement of Paris on December 14, 2022, the evening of the France-Morocco match, were not within the scope of action assigned to the police that evening and the was therefore canceled as well as the minutes drawn up on the occasion.

The seven defendants, including Marc de Cacqueray-Valmenier, 24, considered the former leader of the small ultra-right group the Zouaves, dissolved in January 2022, are therefore free and will not be judged. After a moment of amazement, the seven young people hugged and congratulated each other. ” I do not believe it “launched one of them.

Before announcing its decision, the court retired for more than an hour to deliberate on nullity issues raised by defense attorneys. “The Arrests” defendants were “illegal”had thus supported Me Georges Sauveur, lawyer for two defendants.

Increased surveillance of ultra-right movements

The seven young people were prosecuted for “participation in a group for intentional violence or degradation” and, for some, carrying a weapon. According to reports, a bag belonging to one of the defendants would have contained truncheons, but this bag was ” lost “ during the proceedings, lawyers noted.

A well-known figure on the ultra-right, Marc de Cacqueray-Valmenier, with close-cropped hair and brown beard, in a black T-shirt, has already been convicted and imprisoned in recent years. He is currently indicted and under judicial supervision in another case heard in Bobigny. The six other defendants, living in the Paris region or Rouen, have various profiles.

In total, 38 people had been arrested in the bar where the seven defendants were, 31 of them having benefited from a classification without further action or alternatives to prosecution. At the time, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, accused them of having come “do the punch”in a context of increased surveillance by the authorities of ultra-right movements.
