The court extended the ban on rallies in the center of Bishkek until July 1

The Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek extended the ban on holding rallies in the city center until July 1, 2023. This was reported in the press service of the court.

It is noted that the application of the Bishkek mayor’s office to recognize as legal the decision of the mayor’s office of the Pervomaisky district of the capital dated March 31 to limit the place of peaceful assembly has been satisfied.

Meetings are prohibited in the following places:

  • Ala-too square;
  • Erkindik Boulevard – from Lineynaya Street to Chui Avenue;
  • near the buildings of the presidential administration and the Jogorku Kenesh;
  • in the park. Panfilov;
  • in the park to them. T. Tursunbayeva;
  • at the building of the Supreme Court;
  • near the Russian embassy;
  • near the GKNB building.

The ban does not apply to state and municipal official events. Other rallies and actions should take place in the Maxim Gorky Square.

The ban on holding rallies in the center of Bishkek was introduced in March 2022. This decision was made by the Pervomaisky District Department of Internal Affairs of the capital, the court recognized the legality of this decision.

The ban on peaceful gatherings was introduced after several actions were held near the Russian embassy – both anti-war and in support of Ukraine, and in support of Russia.

Ombudsman Atyr Abdrakhmatova spoke out about the ban on holding rallies and called the court’s decision unreasonable.

She noted that this decision is contrary to the Constitution and the country’s international obligations. In her opinion, such decisions discredit the country before the world community.
