The First Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction recognized as legal the extension of the arrest of the former correspondent of Kommersant and Vedomosti, adviser to the head of Roscosmos Ivan Safronov, who is accused of high treason, the press service of the First Court of Appeal told RBC.
“The first appellate court today considered the appeal against the ruling of the Moscow City Court, which extended Safronov’s detention period. The collegium did not find grounds for canceling or changing this resolution, it was left unchanged, ”the court said.
Safronov, before the announcement of the judgment, congratulated the audience on the New Year and stressed that he was receiving letters again that had not been given to him before. “I live with billionaires in the center of Moscow (Safronov is being held in the Lefortovo pre-trial detention center. – RBK), when necessary, they take me. Like in a dream. And recently, an extremist neighbor cut my hair, ”he joked.
FSB completed investigation of Safronov’s case
Safronov was detained and arrested on July 7 last year on suspicion of treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code). Under this article, he faces 12 to 20 years in prison. His term of detention was repeatedly extended, the last time was in October, then Safronov was left in custody until January 7, 2022.
