The Interdistrict Court in Bezhetsk (Tver Region) refused to mitigate the punishment of the former head of Komi Vyacheslav Gaizer, who in 2019 was sentenced to 11 years in prison and a fine of RUB 160 million.

During the consideration of the case at the end of December, Gaizer’s defense asked him to replace his unserved part of the sentence in a colony in the Tver region with forced labor. However, as a result, the court refused the former head of Komi.

In mid-July, Gaizer’s predecessor, a former member of the Federation Council, Vladimir Torlopov, was released. He was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison in 2019. The ex-official came out on parole.

Initially, Torlopov and Gaizer were suspected by the Investigative Committee of creating and leading a criminal community. According to the investigation, as a result of the actions of the accused, the state suffered damage in the amount of ₽4.5 billion. In total, 16 people were involved in the case.

The Moscow City Court recognized the verdict of the ex-head of Komi Gaizer as legal
