The National Center for University and School Works (Cnous) declared, Thursday, August 31, to take « act » of the decision of the judge in chambers of the administrative court of Paris which suspended, on the same day, the decision of the regional center of university and school works (Crous) of Paris to limit to June 30, 2024 the occupation of accommodation in certain university residences to make them available for the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

It was the Solidaires-Etudiant-es union that had taken legal action, after the Crous had decided to rent only until June 30, 2024, and not until August 31 as usual, student accommodation so that some d of them are vacant – more than 3,000 – and can be made available to the Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games (from July 26 to August 11 and from August 28 to September 8, 2024). These accommodations will have to accommodate volunteers and partners mobilized on this occasion (security forces, caregivers, first aiders, bus drivers or even private security agents).
“The execution of the decision of the Crous de Paris to generally limit the right to occupy accommodation in university residences (…) for the year 2023-2024 to June 30, 2024 is suspended”ruled the administrative court of Paris.
“This decision is very satisfactory because it meant that students who, for example, have to take remedial exams during the summer would no longer have accommodation or that we would relocate them very far away in Ile-de-France”reacted to Agence France Presse, Me Marion Ogier, lawyer for the Solidaires union
“This decision does not call into question the meaning of the provision of vacant accommodation for the reception of personnel mobilized for the Olympic Games, but the way in which it has, at this stage, been organized”, explained the Cnous in a press release, adding that it “will very soon propose new consultation and contractualization methods allowing the implementation of the project”.
The Cnous also points out that, “contrary to what certain comments suggest, there will never be any question of depriving a student of accommodation during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In accordance with the commitments made, students who may have to temporarily change accommodation in order to ensure the serenity in the operation of university residences during the period of the Games will benefit from nearby rehousing at no additional cost and payment of travel costs”.
