Valve is preparing to release two new game controllers, which are already in preparation for mass production. This was reported by The Verge, Day.Az reports with reference to Gazeta.ru.
According to the source, the first gamepad, called Steam Controller 2, is being developed under the code name Ibex and is the successor to the original model released in 2015. The second controller, codenamed Roy, is a universal gamepad that can be used with Deckard’s standalone VR headset.
The Roy is rumored to feature a D-pad, bumpers, and a full set of ABXY buttons, allowing it to be used for more than just VR gaming. It will be similar in shape to the Valve Index controller, having an elongated shape. Additional details about the device have not yet been disclosed.
Valve is expected to unveil the Roy controller at the same time as its standalone Deckard virtual reality headset, which was first revealed in 2021. However, Valve has not yet given official comments about this device.
The original Steam Controller released in 2015 for $50 and featured an unusual design with two round touchpads that replaced the traditional analog sticks. They simulated mouse control, making the Steam Controller useful for games not designed for gamepads. It is known that developments on the Steam Controller formed the basis of the Steam Deck portable PC.
